CHI PROVIDED STEP DOWN TRAINING FOR WOMEN FORUM IN RURAL PART OF LIBERIA
In early May 2018, Community Healthcare Initiative, a Co- implementing partner to Actionaid Liberia on a project fully funded by the European Union Delegation in Liberia called “Enhanced protection from sexual and gender based violence for women, girls and sexual minorities in Liberia” implemented Step Down training to members of the Women Forum in selected project communities. The overall objective of the EPS Project is to improve protection from sexual violence and other forms of SGBV including rape, domestic violence, forced marriage, and female genital mutilation for women, girls and sexual minorities in Liberia. The project is ongoing in eight communities within three counties, namely: Margibi County (Larkay-ta and Kpan’s Town communities), Gbarpolu County (Gbarquoita, Smith Town and Bellehkpalamu communities) and Montserrado County (Caldwell, Banjor and Lowcost Village).
During the Step Down community based training, 240 women from the eight communities received training in SRHR, GBV Concept, Women Rights and access to justice. The training provided a medium were participants’ knowledge were strengthened with the tools needed to build their confidence in reporting and challenging all forms of gender based violence affecting women in the homes and communities and the steps involve in ending SGBV.
